lan Brass received his Law Degree from the University of Ottawa in 1990 and was called to the Bar in 1992. Since then, Alan has practiced criminal law, championing the rights and interests of accused persons. Alan is respected among his peers as a dedicated, compassionate and hard-working lawyer who practices with the utmost ethical integrity. Alan prides himself in providing clients with the highest quality of legal defence.
In addition to his busy criminal law practice, Alan has taught at Carleton University’s Law Program and instructed the Criminal Law component at the Bar Admission Course for entry into the Law Society of Upper Canada. He has guest lectured at the University of Ottawa Law School, addressed Interns and Residents on Medical/Legal issues, and judged Moot Court. As well, Alan was hired as a Special Prosecutor for Elections Canada.
Prior to pursuing his law degree, Alan attained a Master’s Degree in Political Science, worked for a Federal Crown Corporation and traveled. Alan is an active volunteer in community associations and has spoken to several service organizations, seniors’ groups and secondary school students about the role of a criminal lawyer.

Shira completed her Juris Doctor degree at Dalhousie University’s Schulich School of Law in 2015 and was called to the bar June, 2016. While at law school, she interned with Legal Aid Nova Scotia in the Criminal Law division, participated in the Judge’s Weekly Clerkship Program at the Supreme Court of Nova Scotia and founded the Business Law Association of Dalhousie. Prior to law school, Shira worked on Parliament Hill as a Parliamentary Assistant. Shira received her undergraduate degree with honours from Queen’s University in Sociology, with a focus on criminology courses.
Born and raised in Ottawa, Shira has always has always been involved in community life. Shira has volunteered with vulnerable groups including disadvantaged youth through the KidsSport Running and Reading Program and with at-risk Ethiopian-Israeli youth through the Ethiopian National Project. Shira currently sits on the Board of Directors for Tamir Foundation, an organization dedicated to providing residential and day-services to persons with developmental disabilities and the Board of the Bora Laskin Law Society.
Shira has successfully conducted trials and motions in Superior Court and in Provincial Court. She prides herself on her providing a passionate defence for her clients. Shira has spoken at the Defence Counsel Association of Ottawa conference in Montebello, at the Youth Services Bureau and to a class of secondary school students about various topics in criminal law.
